Keeping "cluster" of vms off the same host

Hey all,

6 Hosts ESXi 7U2 / Vsphere 7U2
SSD storage, 80GB backend, 10gb nics on vms, ~100 vms in this Datacenter

In our environment we have some vms that are running as "nodes" for products we use.
Dev App A:
VM-DEV-Node1
VM-DEV-Node2
VM-DEV-Node3
VM-DEV-Node4

Sometimes these vms find themselves on the same host. Maybe 3 vms will be on 1 host, maybe 2 vms will be on 1 host.

The issue I have seen is that when I put a host in maintenance mode and it has xx of these vms on it we will have issues with that product / software crashing. It seems like the few minutes for vmotion and any small latency spike is too much for the product to handle.

It's more work but I could manually move the VMs around before any maintenance. But we have 3-4 other "clusters" of vms like this. So it's sort of a pain when doing ESXi upgrades.

Is there a way with DRS to make sure those VMs never share a host but still have access to all six hosts in the Datacenter?

Maybe affinity rules will be some kind as a solution
