Isolate a single vm to a host?

I have an interesting problem.  I need to take a single vm in a large cluster be the only vm on 1 of the hosts.  I know I can create a vm group with every other vm and a host group with every other host and restrict the movement by DRS, but that requires a lot of maintenance. Especially with frequent vm creation, like we have.

Does anyone have ideas on how else to solve this conundrum?

Thank you

Hi,

I believe DRS rules is the only way to create VM to host affinity.

If you have to do this frequently, for new VMs or for any other reason then using powercli you can automate creation of host group, VM group and rules.

E.g.  at one of my client, we have host cluster with 20  host and due to some licensing reason we want to run specific VMS on couple of licensed hosts. Also users randomly create, delete VMS as per their requirements.

For first time I created drs groups manually and then scheduled powercli script to update VM groups with specific criteria like resource pool, VM folder or VM names.

Thanks,

Haridas
