Is running VCSA upon the hosts it is meant to manage a supported installation?

Jump to solution

Hello,

We are in the process of planning our migration from vCenter for Windows over to the VCSA solution. I haven't been able to find any documentation that stating that running the VCSA upon the hosts it is meant to manage is supported. We currently operate vCenter on a bare metal windows server that is not a part of the hosts it manages. The only virtual infrastructure we have available are the hosts the current vCenter manages. That puts us in the position of having to migrate vCenter to an appliance that would run on the hosts its intended to manage. I'd just like to make sure that this is a supported setup before we pull the trigger on the migration. Does anyone know if that is the case?

Thanks much,

Donovan

Yes, it has been for years even with the Windows-based vCenter Server.

I was running a HA/DRS cluster in that fashion back in VMware Infrastructure 3 days, before the name vSphere even existed.
