  • 1.  Is it possible to cluster a VCenter server?

    Posted Jun 03, 2013 12:27 PM

    Hi,

We have a VCenter 4.1 environment and we are about to upgrade to version 5.1. What would be the best practise to make them redundant in case a VCenter server fails?

    Many thanks!

    Best Regards,

    Joris

Check out the support statement in VMware KB: Supported vCenter Server high availability options to get an idea of your options here. I tend to personally install vCenter in a VM and use HA/DRS to protect it that way. The database is arguably the most important component to protect here, so keep that in mind.

Take a look at vCenter Server heartbeat product

    aravinds3107,

This looks like a monitoring tool. Does it ship with an enterprise license?

Is there no solution to have one physical vcenter server fully redundant?

It is not just a monitoring tool.. There are more features provided by heartbeat suggest to go through the docs..

It has to be licensed separately as its a separate product.

I dont this so it is possible with a single physical server. If its a VM then you get benefited by HA
