Insufficient disk space on datastore error when trying to increase hard disk space

im needing some help, im trying to increase hard drive space on a server. the environment is esxi 6.7 managed by vcenter. i only have the one datastore on the host.  when i go to increase hard drive space it says insufficient disk space on datastore.  the current disk size is 200GB, my datastore has 400GB+ of free space.  even when i try to add 1GB i get this error. any suggestions?

The following VMware KB says that if your datastore is 100% full, you might not be able to increase its disk space:

Check the disk space utilization, if it is 100%, manually delete some files.

Sorry, I mis-interpreted what you initially said, but now I get it.

Try to increase the vmdk size from the ESXi shell using the "vmkfstools" command. Refer to the following blog post for more info:

if it didn't work, check vmkernel.log and hostd.log for any clues.
