How to update the ESXi Host where vCenter is running

Is it possible to update the ESXi Host with vCenter and the Update Manager on a Windows Server 2012 R2 VM on it running?

I have only one ESXi Host. But in the webclient says me everytime the object would not support this. I should migrate the VM to some other host.

But somehow it must be possible. Is there any way to get this working? Or how should people update there ESXi host when they have only one.

You will not be able to update your the host where Update Manager is running... and since you don't have another host, you will need to shutdown all virtual machines... place the host in maintenance mode and update/upgrade the host using the command line. If you don't how to use command line to update your host, take a look here: “esxcli software vib” commands to patch an ESXi 5.x/6.x host (2008939) | VMware KB
