How to disable the vCenter 6.5 inactivity/logout timer

I could not find this in the documentation or online anywhere, so I had to locate it myself.

To disable the session timeout in vCenter 6.5:

  1. Log on to the computer where vCenter is installed
  2. Open File explorer
  3. Go to Options, and select Show hidden files
  4. Open: C:\ProgramData\VMWare\vCenterServer\cfg\vsphere-ui\
  5. Open the file WebClient.properties using Windows Notepad
  6. Edit menu -> Find... -> refresh.rate
  7. Change it to some positive value, such as 1770, to refresh every 29.5 minutes, just before the usual session timeout.

The config file warns that enabling the refresh can be bad as it puts extra load on vCenter to do frequent web browser refreshes for many logged-on vCenter users. But a 29.5 minute refresh is not likely to be a performance problem.
