How to create custom performance alarms

Hi,

I am trying to define some performance alarms in vCenter.  For some of the alarms there are default triggers I can use, such as Disk Aborts or Host Swap Pages Write, so that is not a problem.  I also want to define an alarm on the event that one of our hosts has dropped packets on any of its network links.  I know there are performance counters for this, NET.DROPPEDRX.summation or NET.DROPPEDTX.summation.  But his is not a default trigger.  Is there any way to define such an alert ?  How do I do this ?

Thnx,

Yvan

Hello and welcome to the communities.

Check out http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-12145 for info on custom alarms.

Hi Brian,

thanks for the link.  I already found this document, it describes how to create custom alarms for events.  I am looking on how you can create an alarm for a performance counter, for instance an alarm each time any of my hosts experiences dropped network packets.  I haven't found a way to create a custom alarm for something like this.

Hi yavan

Welcome to the communities.

your description say you need some monitoring tool .

So that you wil get alarm by email or message if packet dropped, or cpu

or RAM consumption are too high etc etc .
