Please excuse me because I am not a VMware specialist. I am a DBA and I need to use Powershell to dynamically report on what VMs on are on what VMHosts, connected LUNs, etc. Just read only stuff. Our VMware expert doesn't know how to get this kind of reporting working and doesn't have the time anyway, so here I am. 🙂 In simple terms, what do we have to do get this basic kind of Powershell reporting on VMware working?
Well, the first step is to state precisely what you want to see in a report. You've named some examples, but is this an exhaustive list?
Those are the main things. If getting a list of VM hosts and VM's plus attached LUNs is all I got, I would be very satisfied. As a Phase 2, it would also be interesting to get other information of course, such as:-
Connection State,
CPU's
Memory
Provisioned MB
In Use MB
Unshared Mb
NICs
Network #
{eg. Network 1 | Network 2 | Network 3 | Network 4 }
ServerLAN1, iSCSIILAN, etc
Resource pool
TypeOfServer {eg. Live, UAT,etc}
IT Contact
Business Contact
Application
Datacenter
Cluster
Host
OS
Thanks,
