Failed to convert windows server 2003 r2 x64 with vmware converter standalone at 1%

I have a problem with a phisical 2003 server r2x64 that i want to move in my hypervisor ESXI 5.5.

When i launch the conversion with vmware vcenter converter standalone (5.0.1 or 5.5 have the same result) the conversion failed at 1% with the message:

Unable to create a VSS snapshot of the source volume(s). Error code:

2147549183 (0x8000FFFF)

the service volume shadow copy and microsoft software shadow copy provider is started .

What I could do?

Thank a lot

vssadmin writers no return errors and the key registry STORAGE\Volume aren't corrupt..

vssadmin list providers no return more than one provider..

So it is not one of the two cases referred to by the vmware KB.

I have no ideas  how to solve..

Can you help me?

Did you rebooted the server and tried again ? If not, try disabling all non Microsoft and VMware services using msconfig, reboot the server and try again.

I already tried several times to restart the server simply but the error is always the same.

I also tried as you suggest to disable all non microsoft services and vmware but the error is still there unchanged.

I'm beginning to think that it has some serious problem the operating system, a few months ago it often happens that you plant a minute and then resumes working normally. that can be connected is the problem?

Searching on Google again, found another VMware KB article that says that this seems to be a known Microsoft issue: VMware KB:    VMware Converter fails with the error: Unable to create a VSS snapshot of the source v...

Take a look at the possible workaround/solutions on:

If the NT Backup utility fails to resolve this issue and you continue to see VSS errors, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 940184 or2009533.
