Expanding a datastore in vCenter with VMS running

We have expanded our Volume and LUN on our NetApp SATA VMStore from 2TB to 4TB, we now want to expand within vCenter, am I ok to do this inside of office hours whilst vms are running on the datastore?

Going in via configuration - storage - etc etc..

It should be fine. Off hours is better, as you have to perform rescans etc.

This will not affect the VM's running in it.

Unless there is a specific requirement, why not go with 2TB LUNs? I mean add another LUN of 2TB instead of adding an extent?

You can do this with VMs running without problems, but if LUN experiences high I/O you can schedule this operation to non-business hours and with low I/O.

Check this KB article for more detailed information: VMware KB: Growing or expanding a VMFS volume or datastore
