Expanding DIsk on virtual machine through vSpehere

I need to expand a drive on one of our VM hosts. I went into the SAN and expanded the volume and now need to increase the size of the drive on the VM file server.

the problem I am having is when I am trying to add a drive, I get insufficient drive space to add the increased volume

HI,

Can you please give more details? Where do you want to increase the size in VM? Ideally it should be increased in SAN first, then ESXi host Datastore increase and then VM increase (assuming you are increasing the VMDK of the VM)

I think you mean to increase the datastore first.  ONce datastore is increased you can expand any VMDK's

Right click a host and rescan for datastore/lun to make sure it sees the growth.

1

Log in to the vSphere Client and select a host from the Inventory panel.

2

Click the Configuration tab and click Storage.

3

From the Datastores view, select the datastore to increase and click Properties.

4

Click Increase.
