ESXi host not responding but VM haven't vmotion to other hosts.

Hi,

Suddenly ESXi Host not responding but VM still running on this host. Those VM not vmotion to other hosts.

Otherwise, I still succeed to ping this ESXi host and all VM on this host. And I can VNC to control those VM.

Please advice.

Thanks !

Hi,

Seems your management agents may be hung (hostd), since your VM run as a kernel process they are unaffected.

Did you have any kind of storage issues lately? check the vmkernel.log and hostd.log to see if you see any errors and you could try a restart of the management agents with command services.sh restart.

Hi,

  • Do you mean Management agent of HKVM 5 hang ?

A :  Yes, I am assuming that HKVM is a ESXi host and not a virtual machine.

  • Where to find vmkernel.log and hostd.log ?

A : SSH into the host or take DCUI and from shell screen,

log location : /var/log/

  • How to check the log ?
  • Restart management agent of HKVM 5 ?

A : VMware KB: Restarting the Management agents on an ESXi or ESX host
