  • 1.  ESXI host not showing Model in Summary Tab

    Posted Oct 27, 2019 08:54 PM

Running 2 vCenters  using VSCA 6.5

4 ESXI hosts on each vCenter.

Both vcenters are clustered under the datacenter

Of the 8 ESXI hosts 3 display the Model .Dell Inc. PowerEdge R430

All 8 hosts are the exact same hardware configuration

Installed using the Dell ESXi image

Here is what I am seeing

Here is one that looks correct.

Any idea on how I can get this corrected?

    Thank you

    Tom

Check the result of the following commands. you should find the server information. Is that shown there?

    esxcli hardware platform get

    or

    esxcfg-info | less -I

Can you retrieve the server's model information from the Dell DRAC port web interface or not? What type of ESXi did you install on your hosts? Standard or Dell-Customized?

The only time I've seen this happen is when a server has been OEMd by someone else in which they re-write (or clear) the SMBIOS. For example, if Vendor X offered a hardware appliance with their software embedded and got the servers from DellEMC. They would usually clear the SMBIOS or re-write it with their info so as to complete a branding experience. In such cases, you would have to find and download a SMBIOS update utility from the vendor to reload this, but I've never done this myself.

    Thanks

I just sent an email to my vendor.

After getting in touch with the vendor they gave me a file

I had to set up idrac on all my DELL Power Edge R430 servers.

After the rebranding of the system the information appeared back in vCenter

This issue can not be closed as resolved

    Thank you
