Data/Time issue

We have a VCenter with ESXi Hosts Version 5.1, Our Domain Controller is sitting In one of the ESXi Host and the host NTP settings is pointing to that Domain Controller which is sitting in the same host.

all other ESXi hosts are also pointing to that DC as NTP server. All host are in the same cluster and our email servers are also in the same cluster and they are windows and linux.

Now we faced an issue on our Email messages which are showing wrong data and time ! What could be the reason(s) of this issue ? and what is the best practice(s) of NTP scenario in ESXi environment?

Thank You

Welcome to the Community,

Our Domain Controller is sitting In one of the ESXi Host and the host NTP settings is pointing to that Domain Controller which is sitting in the same host.

With the DC being a virtual machine, the recommended way to synchronize time is to point both - the DC as well as the ESXi hosts - to an external time server. Synchronizing the hosts with the virtual DC could lead to issues and should be avoided.

Hi,

For information about NTP and VMware, you will find all that you need here : http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1318

Then vmware recommands disabling time sync and use ntp inside guest OS.
