Creating an OVA using existing vmdk files

Any pointers to creating OVA by using existing vmdk files?

I've taken a look a ovftool but that seems to require a .vmx file as input which i dont have.

I've exported an OVF from vCentre 6.7 and got only the .vmdk (two of these), a .nvram file,   .mf,  & .ovf files as port of the OVF export.

Now from the exported OVF the intention is to create a new OVA where the two extracted vmdks are a part of.

An OVA is really nothing more than a tarball which contains the files you have in your hand. The disks aren't merged as you would expect because they're separate disks.

I am able to log into a standalone ESXi host using the non-web client and "Export OVF Template" as a single file.

Putting them back into Inventory may work out for you.

I used to make extra folders and extra copies of vmdk's in the datastores, but since none of them were ever added to Inventory, I could only see them when i browsed the datastore, which also caused confusion.

Don't be afraid to keep unused vm's in Inventory. They won't run if you don't want them to.
