Configuring DRS and EVC!!

Hi All,

I have 2 IBM (IBM Systemx3650 M4, Intel® Xeon ® CPU E5-2620 V2 @ 2.10GHz, 12 CPUs * 2.099 GHz) Hosts.

one number of DELL (PowerEdgeR730, Intel®Xeon®CPU E5-2630 V3 @ 2.40 GHz, 16 CPUs * 2.399 GHz) Host  with vmWARE essential plus kit license. configured one cluster and all 3 HOST are under same cluster.

Problem 1: trying to enable DRS, getting error as I am not licensed to enable DRS for DELL host and license should be upgraded for the same.

Problem 2: trying to enable EVC, Intel®Ivy Bridge" Generation is not supportable for DELL Host and Intel® "Haswell" Generation is not supportable to remaining both IBM Hosts.

could anybody suggest a easy way to overcome it / what step should i take to solve it.

as part of Essentials plus, all you get is following

Essential licenses do not include DRS feature, so you will not able to enable that feature on cluster. And about the EVC, the Ivy Bridge should work since that is the highest level that your IBM hosts support and your DELL host support the Haswell level, that is higher than the Ivy Bridge. Im running VSphere 6.0, i gon through the document you shared. so what would be the way to solve this incompatibility issue as per you?

What exact error you're getting ? Any chance you share a screenshot ? And the vCenter is running inside that cluster ?

Yes, vCenter is running in same cluster (Standalone Windows System), below screen shot shows compatibility error while enabling EVC. kindly clarify..

So, now the problem is easy, since you don't have a really compatibility issue 🙂 Since vCenter VM is running in one of the hosts, you should do that procedure: VMware KB: Enabling EVC on a cluster when vCenter Server is running in a virtual machine

The EVC level for the new cluster should be Ivy Bridge.
