Changing the CPU after Guest installed

Dear All,

Is it safe to change the No of CPUs assigned to VM after it installed. I am really in need to do so. Because i am running out of CPU utilization for ESX

Yes, you can increase or decrease the vCPUs to vm. There's no issue unless it constraints for more requirement at ESXI or VM level.

But it gives the Message saying  " Changing the Number of CPUs after the Guest OS is installed might make your Virtual Machine unstable"

This is a warning. If you analyzed the VM's performance and CPU requirement and you are sure the X number of vCPUs can accommodate this VM's CPU need then you can ignore this warning.

Also if hot plug is not supported or enabled, then you need to shut down VM to make changes.
