Hi all,
I want to change the vCenter ID, This vCentermanaged Esxi host is running production. vCenter and ESXi hosts are monitored by monitoring services such as Solarwind and Cacti. What effect will this change have on the system? What reconfiguration is required when changing the vCenter ID? Will changing the vCenter ID affect the operation of VMs in the system?
Thanks
It shoudl not cause any issues. You can use the xpand Runtime settings and then enter a unique value for the vCenter Server unique ID while performing this activity
You can change vCenter Server ID w/o taking downtime, it doesn't affect the running workloads but does have an impact the current scheme for VM MAC Address generation. See https://williamlam.com/2022/10/is-the-vcenter-server-unique-id-still-important-today.html
Hi Lamw,
If I change the vCenter ID, will All VMs managed by vCenter change the MAC address?
Regards
No, those generated MAC will stay. It will only affect net-new VM creations and MACs generated will base based on the new VC ID
