Just wondering if anyone can answer this.
Mostly a cosmetic issue, but is there any issues with renaming the VCSA 6.5U2 VM and its runtime name (vcenter --> Configure tab --> Settings --> General --> Runtime Settings --> vCenter Server Name
All I really want to do is change it from UPPERCASE to lowercase to appease some of the format/standardization police in the organization, and line up with the other lowercase vcenters showing in linked mode.
This is probably not a good idea. Changing the name of vCenter in the case where it was deployed using FQDN (as it properly should) is not supported. I do not 100% know if these names are case sensitive, but if they are changing the case alone would be considered changing the name. At best, it may not work, and at worst it'll break your vCenter.
Dear daphnissov,
@all
I have the same situation and I found this steps - Configure Runtime Settings for vCenter Server .
** in my case needs to be changed just a single letter.
plus the only point that may be still not a good idea - to change from FQDN to IP and vice versa.
can you or someone else PLS tell me if that is possible - to change the vCenter Server name and what have or is till not the great option.
thank you in advance!!
The Runtime settings are not the same thing as changing the hostname of vCSA. If you installed vCSA using a FQDN and it is adopting it as its PNID, you cannot then change that hostname later. You will need to re-deploy.
