Change EVC Mode without distrupting the VMs and downtime

Hi,

I would like to know, how to change EVC Mode of the cluster without distrupting the VMs and downtime ?

I came across a blog, where it says, disconnect and remove the host, create a new cluster and add the host to the new cluster.

But in the above explanation, I see Folders are getting emptied and again we need to move the VMs manually to respective folders.

Is there a way to achieve this manual intervention ?

Please help.

It depends on what you want to change.

Increasing the EVC level can usually be done on the fly.

Downtime is only required if there are VMs in the cluster which use a higher/newer CPU feature set, than the one available in the EVC mode that you want to set.

First migrate all VMs on the same configuration ESXi host and then remove ESXi host from that cluster.

Then change EVC mode

Currently, EVC is in disabled state

I want to set to Sandy Bridge and I have 10 Hosts in my cluster

So Do I need to remove all the hosts from the cluster and then enable the EVC and re-add ?

Removing and adding hosts doesn't help much, and you may still need to power off VMs if a host's CPU is newer (has more features) than Sandy-Bridge.

What hosts vendor/model/CPU do you have?
