Can we do vMotion from esxi 5.1 to esxi 4.x version

Hi All,

           Can we do vMotion from esxi 4.1 to esxi 5.1 version ? Virtual machine hardware version 9

As long as you meet the requirements, vMotion will work. A few requirements:

- CPU compatibility of ESXi hosts for vMotion

- shared storage requirement ( both hosts have access to same datastores)

- vMotion network requirements (in the same vMotion network)

OKay...

                  After migrate the virtual machine from 5.x to 4.x will it work properly.. why because the hardware version was 9 but esxi 4.x will not support 9 version.

As you've already known, esxi 4.x does not support virtual hardware version 9. What is the reason for moving a VM with hw-9 to ESXi 4.x? Are you doing a rolling upgrade? If yes,  only upgrade the virtual hardware of the VM's once all the ESXi hosts in a cluster are all upgraded to 5.x. You also have the option to not upgrade the virtual hardware since 5.x still supports lower virtual hardware versions.
