Can't move download, clone or migrate .VMDK

Hello,

We are having a problem with a VM where I can download any VM file except the harddisk. I checked locks on that file but I can't identify the lockholder:

Lock [type 10c00001 offset 136777728 v 6523, hb offset 3145728

gen 161, mode 0, owner 00000000-00000000-0000-000000000000 mtime 4134562

num 0 gblnum 0 gblgen 0 gblbrk 0]

Addr <4, 246, 18>, gen 6497, links 1, type reg, flags 0, uid 0, gid 0, mode 600

len 441, nb 0 tbz 0, cow 0, newSinceEpoch 0, zla 4305, bs 8192

After shutting it down this weekend I wasn't able to power it on at first. When I created a new vm which uses the harddisk it did boot. I then tried to clone that machine but failed.

Any ideas on how to proceed? This machine need to be back upped and that isn't possible at the moment.

Hi Jason,

The first thing I would be doing to attempt to release the locks would be to restart the management agents on your ESXi hosts.

Follow the steps in the KB and see if you can make any progress there.

kb.vmware.com/kb/1003490

I have found this to release locks on storage.

Please note VMs will no go down during a managment agent restart, you may however see hosts disconnect from the vCenter and Reconnect.

Cheers

Hey Toby,

Thanks for your reply, I restarted the management agent on the host that is running the VM but to no avail. Do you think it could be another host that is locking it?

I will try to virtualize the VM this weekend.
