Can't change the "Guest OS" property

Hi,

I'm trying to change the "Guest OS" property of a Linux virtual machine on vCenter Web Client.

The virtual machine shows on vCenter as "Other (32-bit)" Guest OS.

When I try to change on the "Edit Settings" option, it just creates a task that does nothing and the guest OS remains Other 32-bit, no matter what I choose as an OS.

Does anybody knows why this happens?

Hi

Which vCenter & ESXi version are you using currently?
Have you tried changing using vSphere Client?

There is a KB article that similar to this issue but it's on ESXi 5.1: VMware KB: Cannot change the guest operating system selection of a virtual machine in ESXi 5.1

Thanks,

Bayu

Hi Bayu Wibowo,

Thanks for replying.

vSphere Web Client: Version 5.5.0 Build 1588022

Client Integration Plug-in: VMRC version 5.5.0 Build 1587018

Client Support version 5.5.0 Build 1579656

ESXi version: VMware ESXi, 5.5.0, 1623387

Image Profile: ESXi-5.5U1-1623589-RollupISO-standard

vSphere Client can't edit settings of version 10 Virtual Machines.

The funny thing is that on other ESXi server it worked.

The version version is not on update 1a.

ESXi version: VMware ESXi, 5.5.0, 1331820

Image Profile: ESXi-5.5-1331820-RollupISO-standard

I can't find anything that shows that VMware knows about this problem.

Started a support ticket with them to check this.
