Can I downgrade VCenter from version 8 to 7

Hi there,

I have installed Vcenter 8 before I realised that I'm only licensed up to version 7.  Is there a downgrade option without completely starting again?  Thanks

Ben

All you can do is delete the vCenter VM and restore the v7 VM from the backup you made just before you upgraded.

If it was not an upgrade but a fresh install then no, you will have to start from scratch.

If you have file based backup then you can restore but you need to delete VCSA 8 vm after that

Hi,

During the upgrade from version 7 to 8, a new vCenter Server Appliance 8 is deployed and then configuration is copied from 7 to 8.

Therefore you should still have old VCSA 7 VM. You can try to power it on, reconfigure, re-add hosts etc.

However I think the best way will be to deploy new vCenter Server 7.

If your product is still under support, you should be able to just upgrade the license in your VMware Customer Connect portal!
