Call "IscsiManager.QueryBoundVnics" for object on vCenter Server failed.

Vcenter  6.0.0 build 4541948

4 x ESXi 5.5.0 build-356872 hosts in Vcenter cluster

1 x ESXi 5.5.0 build-356872 standalone host not in Vcenter

Getting this error when opening iscsi software adapter properties on 3 out of 4 of the ESXi hosts in the vcenter cluster: Call "IscsiManager.QueryBoundVnics" for object "iscsiManager-***" on vCenter Server "myserver.mydomain.com" failed.

The network configuration screen in the iscsi software adapter properties is now empty on the affected hosts yet all volumes are still accessible and hba + vmfs rescans still show the SAN datastores.  1 out of the 4 vcenter cluster hosts and the standalone host don't have the problem.  The 1 cluster host without the problem has always only been connected through iscsi to a Nimble SAN.  The 3 affected cluster hosts and the standalone host are all currently connected to same Nimble SAN but also formerly connected through iscsi to a Compellent SAN that was decommissioned a couple months ago which I'm wondering now if that change is related based on this similar report: https://kensiltra.wordpress.com/2016/11/18/error-call-iscsimanager-queryboundvnics-for-object/  - other similar reports @ Canno't Connect to SAN.

UPDATE: problem solved using either approach in that discussion.
