Apply U3 to current 5.5 vCenter

Hi there,

How does one go about updating a vCenter 5.5 Build U2 2646482 to Build 3000241 U3? The current vCenter is running on a 2008 R2 Server VM.

I've upgraded and pathced individual hosts before with CLI but there doesn't seem to any guides on how to patch a vCenter.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

It will detect the previous installation, including the directory. Take a look here for a step by step guide of how to upgrade to vCenter 5.5 Update 2, that is the same process to upgrade to vCenter 5.5 Update 3: http://www.virtualizationhowto.com/2014/10/updating-vcenter-server-55-update-2/

Just run the vCenter Server (and components) installer and it will detect a old version and gives you the chance to upgrade to the latest while maintains the old data and configuration.

Thank you for the information!

If I was to run the installer do you know which directory option it would be under from the attached pics?

We are trying to patch due to some security vulnerabilities. So we don't have to remove the old version first correct?

hi tjxupendesai

For windows VCenter server upgrade , just download the iso and run the installer,.

Since I am not sure if you are using vcenter appliance or windows vcenter server i am pointing you back to the documentation links

Thank you for coming back to me, the vCenter server is on Windows 2012 R2. So wanted a process to apply the update to this.

1. Backup the databases

2. get the ISO with update 3 - VMware-VIMSetup-all-6.0.0-5112506

3. Run the install on the vCenter VM

Anything else you think i should think about. I have been through the links you have supplied below but that does not go through the process to apply the update on Windows VM.

Thank you again.

hi,

Do take a backup of the VCenter Server and DB (if you can, try taking snapshots on powered off mode ) . If there are other VMware products and solutions installed please do take the necessary steps mentioned in the vmware documentation before you upgrade and ensure they are compatible with 60u3 to avoid surprises post upgrade.
