root@geevm01:~] vim-cmd vmsvc/power.shutdown 42

(vim.fault.TaskInProgress) {

   faultCause = (vmodl.MethodFault) null,

Check the ESXi host. Is there a task in progress from the tasks list? The host seems to think so.

Is this error coming on vCenter , then stop all services and start gain check .

in case it is from esxi , you may check the running all process and find the process related the VM and kill that .

Just had the same issue on 6.7 U2

Issue was a failed instance of a vmware tool upgrade. Unmounting vmware tools installer resolved my issue.

Right-click on VM

Guest OS >  Unmount Vmware tools installer

Thanks

Tom

Except Install VMware tools option everything else is greyed out.  VM is running on 6.7 environment.
