Seems like your VM is running from snapshot and this explain why it is consuming all datastore space... take a look at Snapshot Manager and delete any snapshot, and if there is no snapshots on snapshot manager, take a new snapshot and use the option "Delete All" to delete the new snapshot (this will delete all old snapshots too).

I have had this happen when we had a storage issue.  There is a way to go into the command line and delete the snapshot, but I don't recall it off the top of my head.

Try this:

VMware KB: Committing snapshots on ESXi host from command line

Hi All,

I have checked, there is no snapshot i have taken and cant even take snapshot due to unsufficient space.

is there any way i can migrate some vmdk files to another data store in the same host. would it effect the virtual machine.

As the other responders have stated you are running this machine on a Snapshot, I know you have said that you cannot see one but the evidence is shown in your screen shot,

You have insufficient space on your current datastore to commit this, do you have another ESXi host with space? if so one thing you could do is carry out a VMware converter conversion of this machine from your machine with limited space to the other machine.

One benefit of this is that the conversion will commit the snapshot.

I have taken a snapshot last month and i have delete it just after 1 week. - The Snapshot is still shown in your graphic. they are the files that end in 00001.vmdk and 00002.vmdk

is it possible i can do this without down time. - yes you can do a conversion on a machine when it is running.

or is it possible i shut down and move some vmdk files to the second datastore - Manually moving the VMDKs is NOT recommended. you will break the path in the VMX file. and you will be in a whole world of pain and hurt.

Do you have a guest machine on which you can install VMware workstation? with the necessary disk space to move this machine too?  I am just thinking of alternative methods of peeling the same onion here

If the converter does not work for you, an alternative is to create and attach 3rd new VMDK for the guest VM on a free datastore and ensure it does not overcommit the datastore but sufficient to hold the existing data on the 2TB VMDK.

Within the guest windows OS use securecopy (licensed) or robocopy to copy data with their ACL to the new drive to free the old.
