Addition of new Host to cluster

Can we add dell R720 with Intel Xeon E5-2609 2.40GHz,

to existing cluster  R710 host with Intel Xeon E5520  2.26GHz

Yes you can if both the CPU are of same generation then no problem and its from different generation then you need to enable EVC under cluster settings.

In your case both CPU's are from different generation as below, so you need to enable EVC with Nehalem baseline.

Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2609 -  Sandy Bridge-EP

Intel® Xeon® Processor E5520 -  Nehalem-EP
