Adding License results in "Storage Error" from VCSA

Hi All,

Recently we migrated a vCenter 5.5 Windows Based vCenter succesfully to the 6.5 VCSA.

Now when we try to add licenses in vCenter to get the Hosts ready for upgrade to 6.5, we get the following error -> "Storage Error" :

License Add Error.png

We don't have any clue (there is a SR running) since the VCSA DB has plenty of space available, health status is normal and all services (like License Service) are running normally.

Any thoughts ?

Thanks in advance,

Eric van Willegen

The issue in this case was that the VMWare Directory Service (vmdir) was in a Read Only Mode as Support find out in the logs. This has happened during the earlier migration from a vCenter 5.5 Server to the appliance. You don't get a message or something related.

The solution was to set the vmdir to Normal mode by CLI and after that reboot the Appliance.

Can you give any further detail regarding how this was resolved?  I'm not able to find a method for setting vmdir to Normal mode anywhere.

I did see that article.  Unfortunately, I'm running the appliance so I don't think that article applies.

I didn't understand your problem well. Have you already updated the vcenter? did you put the vcenter 6.x lincecza before updating the esxi hosts?
When does the update give you the error ??
thank you.

log into vcsa as root

/usr/lib/vmware-vmafd/bin/dir-cli state get

Enter password for administrator@redacted:
Directory Server State: Read only (2)

/usr/lib/vmware-vmafd/bin/dir-cli state set --state NORMAL

Enter password for administrator@redacted:
Directory Server State set to: NORMAL (3)

Verify above on all vcenter server appliances

License add succeeds
