About CPU setting: Cores per socket VS Virtual sockets

I have a question about CPU setting for VM.

What's the differnet bettern "Cores per socket VS Virtual sockets" ?

• 1 socket with 2 cores
• 2 sockets with 1 core

With above CPU setting, machine with same CPU performance ?
