Hi Everybody,
Our current scenario is that we have a thick storage lun and we allocate thin VMware disk.
We want to achieve storage efficiency hence we are planning to go with thin storage luns.
We want to know if from following what will suit best if we have first priority to achieve storage efficiency and second priority to have good performance.
Way 1: storage lun:thin VMware disk: thin
Way 2: storage lun:thin VMware disk: thick lazy zero
Way 3: storage lun:thin VMware disk: thick eager zero.
Any statictics in data for performance panalty will be more suitable to analyze best approach.
Check this blog post and let me know if helps: Thin Provisioning - What's the scoop? | VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs
Thanks.
This blog gives me various approches but it does not give the best approach to go with 1st priority storage efficiency(capacity) and 2nd priority performance.
If could get some analysis with statistics can help me more.
This is more a question of management than capacity/performance, since actually there is no big impact on performance due the arrival of VAAI and ATS.
Anyway, the approach recommended by storage vendor is lazyzeroedthick VMDK on thin storage LUNs.
As said by you that "the approach recommended by storage vendor is lazyzeroedthick VMDK on thin storage LUNs.". Could anyone provide me with statistics or examples or scenarios that how it is recommended approach and why not thin on thin is recommended approach.
