windows server2003 and 2 xpprof clients heeellllp

hi there,

I want to set up a small virtual network for teaching.

1 srv2003 and 2 xpprof.

How must I configure:

The 2003 server is the dhcp server for the two clients.

I have made a lan segment, and the dhcp is working for the two clients, but problem is I can not go on the internet (cable), not with the server and not with the clients.

How do I configure the server? bridged???

Or do i leave them all in the lan segment and do something other?

You have a lot of way to reach your goal, but the quicker is :

leave the configuration as is, and add another virtual machine (with a small linux distro you're job will be very fast) with two NIC, the forst one on your private LAN Segment and the ther one bridged to your host.

You could also find a lot of VMware appliance for doing this job, look at some firewall appliance and you've done.

thanks, i can not use linux, that's for another course... is there no other solution? bridged? nat?

Put all you machines NIC on the brided network and you're done ! but you haven't anymore a private network.

Otherwise you could use a proxy server on the Windows Server Machine and add a NIC (on the bridged network to it).

that sounds good, but is my dhcp server (the virtual 2003) then still able to provide my clients with a dynamic ip address?

That was my first situation, but then the clients had there ip addresses from the router... and in the classroom I can not stop the router from being dhcp server...

No, if you put it in the bridged network, the client get an IP address from the frst device who respond on the DHCP REQUEST, o it could be router or your VM.

If you use your private network you're sureDHCP work, but you could add a second NIC on one VM to talk with your production network and browse the internet.

sorry to bother you again, but I am little bit beginner in this matter...

so if I understand you well: I make a second nic to my server?

And how do I configure both nics?

No problem at all ....

the first NIC on your private LAN and the second NIC bridged so you can access the production Network.

After this you can install a Proxy Server (Microsoft ISA Server) or a third party (maybe free) Proxy to let your private network machine reach internet.
