win2008 Guest + public IP address from dedicated server

Hi,

I have a dedicated server with 9 public IP addresses, i seem to be having an issue and i think it's because my secondary IP addresses are not on the same subnet as my primary ip address...

These are my IPV4 details from my host machine (win2008)

Primary IP: 208.43.122.85

Subnet: 255.255.255.224

Default Gateway: 208.43.122.65

DNS: 10.0.80.11 + 10.0.80.22

My host said i also have secondary ip addresses:

IP: 206.217.195.252 - 206.217.195.258

Subnet: 255.255.255.0

I am trying to setup my guest IP with the secondary IP but im not getting any network connection, no ping to host / internet.

I have tried using the same gateway + dns settings as my host on the guest machine but still not working, i get limited or no connectivity.

When i save the network settings on the guest i get the following message:

"Warning: The default gateway is not on the Same network segment (subnet) that is defined by the IP address and subnet mask. Do you want to save the configurations"

Any pointers in the right direction would be great!

I have attached my ipconfig /all results from guest + host machines too.

By the way i have specified my public NIC network adapter from my host in bridged mode too so it's not that.

Let's start with this:

A gateway MUST always be on the same subnet as the IP address used. In you case you need a gateway in 206.217.195.0/24 in your guest.

If you do not have one there you can't connect to anything else than hosts on that subnet. And, no host from other IP subnets can connect to your guest.

That is the first thing you need to correct.

As the gateway of your host is on 208.43.122.64/27 I would suggest to try a guest IP from this network first and see if that works. In other word, give the guest the same IP setup as the primary IP address of the host, just use another free IP address.
