vmware workstation - vista 32bit host - ubuntu 64 9.04 desktop guest (vt is enabled and working) - not able to install

I have tested and confirmed (watched failure notice to cold boot and no more warning) that VT is available, enabled and selected (Lenovo t500) via the test iso file, as well as the initial screens of the ubuntu 9.04 64 bit destkop iso.

I went through the wizard, seletect ubuntu 64 os and mounted the latest iso from ubunto (9/14). I am able to select a system language, but then When I select any boot option. Such as "try ubuntu without any change to your computer" or "install ubuntu" The system guest system just hangs - no more keyboard activity and no installation or new screens.

Also if a language is not selected and the 30 second clock is allowed to hit zero (0s)..the guest system also locks up.

There are no event logs in the vista home basic SP1 during or after thelockup.

Toughts?

try with "I will install OS later" option - then run through the setup manually

It does not behave any differently - still does not work.

Looks like a major bug of the release and it does not fully support ubuntu 64.

What version are you using? Full support of 9.04 was implemented in Workstation 6.5.3

HOST: vista 32 bit Basic Home SP1

VMWARE: Workstation 6.5.3 (just released)

GUEST: ubuntu 64 bit 9.04

I've confirmed the ubuntu file I've downloaded (labelled amd64) is the only 64 bit available and it should work on intel chips (I have the VT enabled). This should work from everything I read. Its supposed to be supported by this version of workstation.

I don't know what to do next, except to scratch the use of vmware for 64 bit ubuntu.

Have you verified that your ISO is not corrupted?

Wow. I was not sure how to actually check (I could navigate the files with poweriso etc. So I just downloaded a 3rd time (as I did it twice before). And Viola - running. Thank you for the suggestion - I almost gave up completely on this.

There are usually md5sums of the ISOs somewhere with the distro. md5sum is a standard Linux command, or you can download a third-party md5sum tool for Windows.
