vmware workstation virtual printing

What is the advantage of adding a printer device to guest settings and installing the virtual printer software? I noticed that if I plug in a usb printer, my guests can connect the usb printer and print.   Is it for non-usb network printers? If I only intend to use USB printing, is there any advantage to adding printer device and virtual printer software?

Virtual printing lets you share the printers from your host without having to explicitly connect them to the guest (it's somewhat similar to shared folders).
