it boots up and then this error comes up
the picture below has a vhd file attached ? I'm running out of ideas what to do
any help will be much appreciated
VMware virtual disk files normally have a .vmdk extension, not .vhd.
Where did this .vhd file come from? If it's a converted file, how was it converted?
It was off a physical machine but it was a vhdk file I converted to a vhd file
Can you be a bit more specific about the process you used to convert this from a physical machine.
You might have better luck if you converted the physical machine to .vmdk format - which is the what VMware Workstation understands natively.
There's also an old post here https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VMware-Fusion-Discussions/Can-I-use-VHD-on-VMware/td-p/2062122 that might be of help.
Have you considered converting that .vhd file into a .vmdk file using something like StarWind's v2v converter to convert that vhd file into vmdk?
You also need to make sure that the Windows installation in the VM has a disk device driver for the virtualized disk controller provided by Workstations. Especially if the original system had a SCSI controller rather than IDE.
I will try today
what do you mean about the the disk drive
does the fusion software work the same workstation 16 pro
hi all
i have tried converting a win 7 machine to a vmdk file different ways to put on a win 10 host machine ,
i have used a winimage to convert a vhd file , then i used the starwind to convert vhd to vdmk file and got bsod
so i have now coppied the physical hard drive using vmware converter and now i have to insert the windows disk but i still get error when starts up
any ideas
i have tried puting a win 7 disk in a external drive and cant load disk ?
The first bluescreen - the 7B was promising.
7B means that you assigned the wrong scsi-controller.
Convert your vhd to vmdk and then show your vmx-file.

Strange idea to convert the vmx to excel - why ???
please attach it like it is.
Ulli
i tried to attached the file as it was but got this message
Wow - this forum software is a joke.
Please rename the file to *.txt and try if that works
I looked at the vmx-file and it has the LSI-SAS scsi-controller configured.
Thats good - leave that as it is.
Now boot the VM with a Windows 7 LiveCD or Windows 7 Install ISO.
Get a cmd prompt.
Run regedit and use the function "load hive"
Confirm if you can follow for next steps
Hi
once I’ve found a win 7 iso do I add that file into the VMware
how do you get the cmd when it don’t boot up in windows
thank you for your help
In that screenshot you have not assigned the ISO !
Next boot use "boot into firmware" option.
Select to boot from CD.
When the Win7 installation starts you come to a point where you can abort and get a cmd.
Like this
power to firmware
Simply right click the play button and select "boot into firmware"
good morning
i have tried boot firmware and couldnt get the external cd drive to kick in it went to the network boot which was at the bottom of the list ?
i have used the win 7 cd that i have and also downloaded a iso file but both i still cant get it to work
i have done the same on another laptop copied the physical drive
and get another issue
and same i cant boot of the cd
i may have to give up lol , i really appreciate your help thank you so much
stu
Dont use the CD - assign the iso-file directly to the SATA-port.
Then make sure to also select "start connected"
Then boot into firmware - go to the Boot-tap and use the + button to get the CD to the top of the list.
Dont give up so easily - call via skype then I help you with Teamviewer if necessary.
