Hello,
I would like to share my Cisco-VPN with one VM.
A greeting and thanks
You really are going to have to provide a tab more information than this . . .
- is the Cisco-VPN an appliance, software running on the Host, or on the VM itself ?
- How is the VM's network configured, Bridged/NAT/Host Only/Custom/LAN segment ?
- Number of physical network interfaces, and subnets ?
. . . etc.,
Hello,
Sorry , the Cisco-VPN is software and running on the host. The VM only have one network interfaces in bridge format.
A greeting and thanks
In that case you have a couple of options . . .
i. Leave the VM's network as is, Bridged, and install the Cisco-VPN client on the VM, this will then run independently of anything that's on the Host.
[Bridged mode connects the VM directly to the hosts physical network]
ii. Change the VM's network to NAT, which will then use the Hosts IP connection and thus will go through the Hosts VPN connection when its running (passthrough).
[NAT mode shares the hosts IP (and bindings)]
Hello,
I don't understand because I have to install Cisco-VPN in the VM if changing the VM's network to NAT, which will then use the Hosts IP connection.
If I run the VPN in the host, and the network interface of the VM is in mode NAT I would have to work, is correct?
A greeting and thanks
You do one, or the other option, and Not a mix and match ! . . . so, to reiterate:
either
i. VM is Bridged, install the Cisco-VPN software on the VM. This will then be independent of the Host, and any network traffic will then be sent between the VMs local Cisco-VPN install to wherever it is connected.
or
ii. VM is NAT, this will use the Hosts IP connection, any VM that is setup in this way will also go via the Host IP, and if the Cisco-VPN is running, then they use this connection. With this option you should Not install the Cisco-VPN on the VM cos it just won't work if used in conjunction.
and Not an amalgamation of the two.
In your original post the question was "I would like to share my Cisco-VPN with one VM" . . . which is a bit of an oxymoron, but reading this literally, you wished to 'share' the Cisco-VPN, which is installed on the Host, with only 'One' of the VMs. Unfortunately, as far as I'm aware this is not possible, because any of your VM's that is NAT'ed will use the Hosts IP connection, and if the VPN is running, and assuming the VPN profile routing/firewall allows, then network traffic will be routed over the Hosts Cisco-VPN connection.
Hello,
Excuse me if I have expressed myself badly or in a very clear way, what I wanted is to execute the VPN in the host and that in the VM it will reach the networks that I arrive in the host when the VPN is initiated.
I have tried to connect after changing VM at NAT mode and runs without problems.
A greeting and thanks very much
