vm-000001.vmdk and vm.vmdk - do I need both?

Hi guys,

I've somehow got two files (both large file sizes!) for one of my virtual machines, yet I have others doing the exact same thing without this.

I'm just wondering if I need the file with the -000001 prefix, and if not, how do I safely remove it?

Thanks

You still need the nd-000001.vmdk 0 it contains your latest work.

if snapshotmanager does not display anything try to create a new snapshot.

This often helps to get something displayed in snapshotmanager

Have you ever created a snapshot for the guest?

Thanks for the reply - I think so, a long time ago when just testing out VMWare... but I can't see anything under the 'Snapshot manager'

do not delete it manually - you will lose a lot of data - use snapshotmanager and "delete" snapshot

if that does not work post details - the vm-000001.vmdk may be an orphaned snapshot - but it also may still be in use.

What does the vmx say ?

Thanks, I'll be careful to not just delete it.

Apologies for my ignorance, but what do you mean by 'what does the vmx say'? When I try to open it seperately? How do I go about that?

Absolutely perfect, thank you!

I just created a snapshot, and deleted it, and suddenly it got rid of the vm.vmdk file

Quite a good saving of 10GB on my disk now - may not sound a lot, but I backup to another drive, as well as an external one, so quite a big saving overall Smiley Happy

Really appreciate it, thanks!
