updating vmware tools results in svga driver that can't be installed

this is the second time i upgrade to the latest workstation version and when i want to upgrade the tools i get the error that the svga driver can't be installed

what could be the problem and how do i remedy it (now and in future upgrades)

os is win10 x86...

Just a swag.. (FTR this is not a commonly reported problem)

Is your guest OS in VMware also set to Windows 10 (not an earlier windows version or the x64 one) ?

Another question.

Have you installed the latest Microsoft visual C++ runtime?  ( https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads )
