unable to Cut / Paste between VMware Workstation and ESXi guest OS

I have been looking and searching for the setting to enable me to cut & paste between my host PC (Win10) and a guest OS (Server 2016). I am using VMware Workstation 17 Pro (v17.0.2) to connect to ESXi 7.0.3 (which is where the Win Server 2016 guest is running), then logging into Server 2016 from there.  Pretty sure that I was able to configure a setting in the guest OS previously (guest isolation, or something like that), to enable the cut / paste functionality. Oh yeah, I do have VMware Tools (v12.0.0) installed in the Win 2016 guest.

I would appreciate any and all pointers.  Thanks -B-

My use case is that I am connecting to a Win Server 2019 guest (running on ESXi) , from a Win10 host (using the VMware Workstation app, connect to remote server feature).  I then attempt to copy / paste from the Win10 machine to the Win Server 2019 machine, and no worky. I thought that I was simply using a RDP like session, which should support cut / paste functionality.

N.B. when I connect to the Win Server 2019 machine, using the Win10 native RDP client all cut / paste seems to work fine. I am fine using the Win10 native RDP client.

any thoughts on this subject. It would surprise me to learn that I am the only person experiencing this.

Not clear to me what your use case is.

I have a hardware ESXi server with VM's. If I "connect to" that server with workstation (on a Linux host), I can open a console on one of the ESXi VM's but copy/paste from my Linux host does not work. I get the same result if I connect to a VM via  the web interface on the ESXi server. Not sure I expected it to.

Never really use that. I remote in to the production ESXi servers via VPN and use tightvnc. I have a test system here and VPN into it some of the time or I go in through the Web UI and"launch remote console".
