trying to start vmware converter on Debian

Hello! We have a Debian 7.8 server, and I'm trying to start the vmware converter client. I followed the instructions here:

http://www.vladan.fr/how-to-p2v-linux-into-vmware-esx-server/

It said it installed with no problems. I initially got this error:

/usr/bin/vmware-converter-client: 206: exec: /usr/lib/vmware-vcenter-converter-standalone/converter-gui: not found

but I was able to fix it by following the instructions here:

ia32-libs : Depends: ia32-libs-i386 But It Is Not Installable - VinCo Sulution Blog

by entering:

dpkg --add-architecture i386

apt-get update

aptitude install ia32-libs

Now when I put in /usr/bin/vmware-converter-client, I get this error:

/usr/lib/vmware-vcenter-converter-standalone/converter-gui: error while loading shared libraries: libgthread-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I don't know how to proceed. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Yesterday I had the same problems installing latest VMware Viewclient 3.4 on Ubuntu 14.04.3 / 64

Honestly I think you are wasting your time.
IMHO there is not a single good reason to install Converter on a Debian Host.
Just use an uptodate Windows 7 VM with latest Windows-Converter. Install Converter and run it "as admin"

I hope you realise that you need an ESXi host in case you want to P2V a physical Linux.
Even then I would not call the results more reliable as "hit or miss"

If you want to safe time probably doing a manual P2V will be a good idea for a skilled Debian-admin
