Hi,
If you are using VMware Workstation/Player 15.x then you can still use the "Shared VM" feature.
Starting with Workstation/Player 16.x this feature however has been deprecated and you cannot enable it for new VMs.
If you are comfortable scripting then you can use vmrun and the windows task manager to start the VM.
If you rather have a supported solution then you can also use my product called vimarun.
The reason I developed vimarun is because the "Shared VM" feature has been deprecated and I still believe it is important to have an easy way to start a selected VM at host system boot time.
