snapshot files used

Hello team,

I have a question with virtual disk usage.

My VM uses 5 virtual disks and at this time, no snapshot is done, as you can see in the screen shot : snapshot screen.png

As you see in the screen shot : snapshot file disk.png, the total size used by all disks is about : 126 Go

virtual filename include an order number like when snapshot is token and nevertheless no snapshot recorded.

I suppose there are virtual files not used at this time, and we can delete few of them to make more space on the hote server.

My questions are :

.What are virtual disks not used now ?
.Can I rename virtual disk in order to suppress the order number ?

For information, i don't remember today, but i think the hote server have crashed one or more time.

What is the best practice to clean that situation ?

Thank's you in advance for your feedback.

Don't delete any of the .vmdk file from the file system. Doing so will result in data loss.

Before digging deeper, please see whether activating the Show AutoProtect Snapshots checkbox, will show the 2 existing snapshots.

Assuming that you do have sufficient free disk space to consolidate the snapshots, you may try the the following steps:

  1. shut down the VM
  2. close VMware Workstation (or at least the VM's tab)
  3. backup the VM's folder (optional, but never a bad idea)
  4. delete the VM's .vmsd file
  5. open VMware Workstation, and select the VM
  6. open the Snapshot Manager for the VM
  7. create a new snapshot (don't close the snapshot manager!)
  8. select that newly created snapshot, and hit the Delete button
