serial0: Unable to retrieve the properties of the "COM1" serial port: Incorrect function.

I have a WIN2K VM running on a Win Vista host, the serial port connection has recently failed with the following error:

serial0: Unable to retrieve the properties of the "COM1" serial port: Incorrect function.

Has anyone had this happen and what is the solution?

same problem for me , Just started today.

My host is Vista Enterprise 64 bit, Guest is 32 bit XP Prof. upgraded to VM ware Workstation 6.5.2, still the same issue.

Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it? This seems to be a machine specific problem, I have loaded this VM on othe computers and not had the problem.

folks - without details we can not help.

To debug serial port issues we need a vmware.log where such a error-message appeared and we need to know if you use the onboard-serial ports or some extension PCI-cards

did you try different settings using the info from my site ?

It's a Vista host and the serial port used to work and then it stopped.....
