"VMX Unrestricted Guest"

So, I Recently Got VMware workstation. I downloaded an ISO, created the Virtual Machine, and clicked "Power on this virtual machine".

Then I got this error:

This host does not support virtualizing real mode. The Intel "VMX Unrestricted Guest" feature is necessary to run this virtual machine on an Intel processor.

Module 'CPUIDEarly' power on failed.

Failed to start the virtual machine.

Does anyone know how to fix this? or is my processor (information below) not compatible with VMware?

CPU:Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU   920 @ 2.67GHz   2.66GHz
RAM:8.00 GB
System:Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit Processor & OS

Tell me if you need any more system information.

Hi,

Welcome at the VMware community forum.

I'm afraid that the intel i7 920 is too old for the current versions of VMware Workstation.

The most recent version of VMware Workstation that would run on that processor is VMware Workstation 12.5

Yes I know, it's a fine processor.

Got a box here with a similar one, but it just won't work with Workstation 14/Workstation 15.

Hi

Thanks for the answer! I'll downgrade to that version for now, But I'll probably change my CPU to a newer version soon, so I can keep using VMware Workstation 15. Smiley Happy

Hi,

Finding a CPU for your current computer that does support VMX Unrestricted Guest is going to be tough.

Most likely you will have to upgrade the motherboard (and probably other things as well)

Hey,

well, i'm no expert at PC building then :smileylaugh:

I was thinking about getting a new gaming PC soon anyway, since the one i'm using is getting a bit old.

i'm getting some accessories for my PC as well, like a USB hub and function keys built into my desk.
