"Unable to connect to MKS" when connecting to Shared VM

Hi there

I have a handful of Shared VMs Im trying to access remotely with VMware Workstation Pro 12 (same version on client and host - both Windows 10 machines). I'm able to connect to the host thats sharing the VMs, I can view all of the shared VMs, open the VM (as in it opens in a tab within Workstation) and perform pretty much any action on the VM including all power options, snapshot, edit settings, etc. The problem is, if I power on a VM (or connect to a VM already powered on, , I receive the following error and Im not able to access the actual console as it remains as a black screen.

Unable to connect to the MKS: Login (username/password) incorrect.

I also noticed Windows Event Viewer on the client is throwing the following Warning Events at the same time the error in Workstation is thrown - Im not seeing any on the host being thrown.

I've seen a bunch of posts here with users running the issue and it usually ended up being a network issue. I've turned the Windows firewall off on both machines, verified ports 443 and 902 are listening on the host and Im able to telnet from client to host over port 902. I also saw another suggestion to update the client's Windows hosts file to include [hostname of host] [IP address] and [fqdn of host] [ip address], but that dient seem to help either.

Any suggestions as to what's preventing this connection from occurring or possibly where to look for more info as to the cause?

Thanks!

Thanks for using Workstation. I believe this one will fix your issue.

Perfect. That did the trick. In fact, I’m now just recalling I ran into this issue several months ago and applied this same fix. I recently upgraded from Workstation 12.0.1 to 12.1.1 and it must have reset this setting back to using port 903. Once I changed it back to 902 and restarted the Workstation Server service, I was able to access the console.

Thanks!
