Host:
VMWare Build: 6.5.0 build-118166
OS: Ubuntu 8.04 32-bit
HardDisk: Sata2
Bios configuration: IDE Compatible
VM:
Vista 64-bit Physical Partition (actually same harddisk as host) (dev/sda1)
Problem:
After booting Vista I get the infamous STOP 0x0000007b.
Tried:
Searching a LOT, but nothing seems to fit into my situation. I have tried manually editing the vmx and vmdx and replace scsi with IDE but that did not make any difference.
What is going on? What can I attempt to do? Thank you so much in advance!
PS. I have uploaded the original vmx and vmdx but I have also attempted to edit those 2 files to match this guide:
That failed too. (consists of replacing all scsi to IDE in vmx and in the vmdx replace ddb.adapterType = "lsilogic" to ddb.adapterType = "ide"

getting a BSOD 7b is expected behaviour when booting a real metal Windows from a physical disk inside a VM.
I don't know if embedded Converter from Workstation can configure Vista-64bit ?

I am not sure what you mean but I definitely had the option of choosing "Vista 64-bit Edition" when creating the VM.
Any idea's on how to solve the problem? If it is eavenly possible to solve?
Just setting the guestOS doesn't help - try embedded converter ...
MENU > Import ...

Please explain yourself. Sorry for probably being ignorant but googling embedded converter gives me nothing. MENU > Import from where?
Forgot to ask - do you need to use the Vista as native boot-option ?
if yes - Converter will not help ...

Yes I would still like to preserve my dual boot option so basically I wan't the ability of:
Choosing Ubuntu or Vista at boot.
Booting Vista in VMWare from the physical partition as Ubuntu guest.
Maybe I am having so much trouble because this isn't even possible?
Anyone?
Forget it - Vista has no hardware-profiles so you can't switch easily
