pro 16 and vmdk disk clean up showing 3TB to clean but doesn't clean anything, vmdk stays the same size

why? and what to do 

i tried to defrag the NTFS partition on the vmdk disk on the host - not help

I click Clean up now, I see the progress bar it says successfully but nothing

Disk cleanup requires free disk space on the host, to migrate data to new .vmdk files. How do the current .vmdk files look like (sizes), and how much free disk space do you have?
